Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port

Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

In the foothills of the Pyrenean piedmont, between the Basque Coast and the Spanish border, Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port is an unmissable destination in the Basque Country.

An obligatory stop on the Camino de Santiago, this medieval town is the starting point for many colourful discoveries: Les Aldudes, in the fascinating Pays Quint, renowned for its quality local products, Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry and its village of character, the Irouléguy vineyards and their typical slopes, the sources of the Nive at Estérençuby down to Bidarray where the Nive rapids deliver thrills to white-water lovers, not forgetting a breathtaking place, summer and winter, that hosts the largest beech forest in Europe: Iraty!

A concentrate of the Basque Country where each village cultivates a happy mix of traditions, art of living and passions that reveal themselves round the bends of side roads.
