Roussillon
This village is world-famous for the 18 shades of red ochre of its Fairies' valley and the tormented relief of its old quarries, cliffs that erosion and the mistral continue to gully.
Under the belfry of the fine clock tower, a vaulted passage lets you enter the old part of the village, which has exceptional unity. The walk is really pretty: almost all the houses are well restored and their tall façades, rendered in ochre tones from yellow to dark red, blend remarkably into the site. The town hall and the house facing it, both very fine, date from the eighteenth century. The Romanesque church, remodelled in the sixteenth century, contains rare seventeenth-century baptismal fonts. On the square, pleasant café terraces let you linger a little longer in this village of magical charm.
