Oingt
Oingt is a medieval village of the Rhône, ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, restored and perched on a spur that overlooks the Azergues valley. It belongs to the Pays des Pierres Dorées, whose stone has always served as a building material. Since 2017, the commune has merged to form the new commune of Val d'Oingt.
A former Roman castrum built in view of Lyon, on ancient routes between Saône and Loire, it reached its peak in the Middle Ages. Around the year 1000, the lords Guichard d'Oingt, vicars of the county of Forez, built a castle there. The "Route Fleurie" links the village to other beautiful villages of the area. The golden-stone lanes are walked on foot.
