Château de Jarnioux

Rhône, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The château de Jarnioux, in the Beaujolais of the Golden Stones, in the heart of the vines, is a listed historic monument. Mentioned as early as 1284, it was founded by the de Gleteins family in the late thirteenth or early fourteenth century. The Gleteins held the lordship until the mid-fifteenth century; the Henry, de Lostanges and Ménardeau families were then owners. Its towers date from the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries.

The château can be visited only on guided tours of about an hour, starting about every twenty minutes. The route includes the courtyards, the lordly prison, the chapel and several rooms. In 2026, visits take place at weekends until 31 October.

The neighbouring wine estate, the Domaine du Château de Jarnioux, has its cellar about 300 metres away. It keeps an old press of 1864, and a visit combined with a tasting is possible.
