Château de Rapetour
The château de Rapetour is a fortified house at Theizé, in the Beaujolais of the Golden Stones, in the Rhône. Originally built by the de Viego family, it was sold for lack of a male heir by Guigues Pelet to Jean de Varennes in 1422. In the seventeenth century, it was acquired by Claude Brossette, founder of the Lyon Academy and close to Boileau. It has been listed as a historic monument since 1989.
The inner courtyard opens onto an Italian-style Renaissance gallery. The Dhenain family, owners, has undertaken to recreate around the château a Mannerist Italian-inspired garden over twelve hectares. The estate produces on its vines a red Beaujolais that bears the name château Rapetour.
An undated tourist sheet mentions guided tours on Sunday afternoons in season, devoted to the château and its alchemical mysteries; no recent information could be confirmed.
