Océanopolis
Océanopolis is an ocean discovery park in Brest, near the Moulin-Blanc marina. It opened on 21 June 1990. Its route is organised into pavilions devoted to three major environments: temperate seas, with Brittany, the polar regions and the tropical zones. An outdoor trail devoted to otters was added in April 2013.
The aquariums hold about 4 million litres of sea water, and the park presents about 10,000 animals and plants, spread over some 1,000 species. You can see seals and penguins in particular, whose feeding times are among the activities. The centre welcomes about 415,000 visitors every year.
Océanopolis also houses the marine mammal study laboratory, created in 1989, which monitors coastal populations, and takes part in research programmes on tropical corals. A major renovation project started in 2023, with extended deadlines. Before coming, it is therefore wise to check the official website to find out which pavilions are open.
