Château de Brest

Finistère, Bretagne

Brest castle is a fortress listed as a historic monument since 1923. Established on a third-century Roman castellum and completed by Vauban in the seventeenth century, it spans seventeen centuries of history and has kept throughout this period its original vocation as a military fortress. It remains today a strategic site of the first importance.

Near the port of Recouvrance, it overlooks the mouth of the Penfeld, with an impressive silhouette. This citadel, seventeen centuries old, stands guard over a town rebuilt after the Second World War. Part of the castle houses the Musée national de la Marine, which lets you combine the visit of the architecture with that of the maritime collections.
