Fort de Bertheaume
The fort de Bertheaume is at Plougonvelin, in the Finistère, on an islet accessible at low tide and now linked to the mainland by a footbridge over the waves. Fortified by Vauban in the seventeenth century, it long served to watch the Goulet de Brest and guards the entrance to the roadstead.
From its 37 metres, this sentinel at the end of the world offers a breathtaking view over the entrance to the Brest roadstead and the Pointe Saint-Mathieu. By day, you discover its history and military architecture. The site, battered by waves, is also a much-loved walking spot, on the wild coast of the Plougonvelin peninsula.
