Locronan

Finistère, Bretagne

A small town that became prosperous in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries thanks to the sailcloth industry, wonderfully preserved Locronan has kept from its rich past very fine Renaissance granite houses. Grouped around the square, they frame the church of Saint-Ronan, dating from the fifteenth century, a magnificent construction of worked granite. The interior, with its ogival vaults, is exceptional and contains a fine fifteenth-century stained-glass window and old statues. Next to it you find the sixteenth-century Pénity chapel and the tomb of Saint Ronan. You should stroll the neighbouring streets, enlivened by many antique and craft shops. By Rue Moal, you go down to the chapel of Notre-Dame de Bonne Nouvelle, dating from the sixteenth century.
