Le Pont Ambroix ou Pont d'Ambrussum

Hérault, Occitanie

The Pont Ambroix is a Roman bridge that crossed the Vidourle at Ambrussum, in the commune of Villetelle, in the Hérault. Built around the turn of the era to carry the Via Domitia, it is said to have had between 9 and 11 arches over a length of more than 150 metres; today only one arch remains, still standing.

It is part of the Ambrussum archaeological site, which brings together a Gaulish oppidum, a Roman road station crossed by the Via Domitia and this bridge. Excavations remain partial. The site is visited with free access, and a museum, also free, presents the discoveries; dogs on a lead are admitted on the site but not in the museum.

The Vidourle can rise very quickly in a flood, which requires caution near the bridge.
