Site archéologique de Filitosa

Corse-du-Sud, Corse

Filitosa is a prehistoric site in Corse-du-Sud, in the commune of Sollacaro, in the Taravo valley. It is famous for its statue-menhirs, sculpted monoliths with human features, raised more than 3,000 years ago, as well as for its Bronze Age remains, such as the circular monuments called torre and the remains of habitation. It was revealed in 1946 by the owner of the place, then excavated by archaeologists.

The site is visited in a pleasant setting, amid olive trees and maquis, with a marked path leading to the main groups. A small museum presents the furniture discovered. It combines with the discovery of Corsica's south-west coast, Propriano and the Alta Rocca region.
