Cascade de Nideck

Bas-Rhin, Grand Est

The Nideck waterfall is in the commune of Oberhaslach, in the Vosges massif, at the entrance to the Bruche valley. A small stream throws itself here from a cliff about 25 metres high, at some 455 metres' altitude, just south of the ruins of Nideck castle.

The site is reached on foot by forest paths leaving the road linking Wangenbourg and Oberhaslach, allowing about half an hour's walk; good shoes are advised. The interest of the place lies as much in the wooded setting and undergrowth atmosphere as in the fall itself. The flow depends greatly on the seasons: in summer, the stream is often reduced to a thin trickle, while the waterfall is much fuller after snowmelt or heavy rain. A walk to the remains of the neighbouring castle readily completes the visit.
