Château de Wangenbourg
The castle of Wangenbourg is an important 13th-century feudal building in the commune of Wangenbourg-Engenthal, in the Bas-Rhin. It was restored in the 16th century and then badly damaged during the Thirty Years' War. The curtain wall, a large main courtyard, a Renaissance fireplace and a four-storey pentagonal keep, reached by a staircase, survive.
The castle is reached on foot by a hiking path from the village. The ruins offer fine views over the surrounding forests and make a pleasant stop on a forest walk, with a visit of the remains and a picnic.
