Château de Guirbaden
A witness to the time when Alsace was part of the Holy Roman Empire, the castle of Guirbaden, in the Bas-Rhin, was built between the 10th and 13th centuries. Surrounded by the Vosges forest, it lies 1 km from the village of Mollkirch, on the hills above the Bruche valley.
Overlooking the left bank of the Magel, at 565 m on an escarpment of the Burckberg, the Guirbaden is the largest castle ruin in Alsace. Of the curtain wall and buildings, only the residence, the keep, sections of the walls and the Chapel of Saint Valentine remain. It offers a magnificent view over the Alsace plain and the Bruche valley.
