Château du Landsberg
Built around 1200 by the knight Conrad of Landsberg on a granite spur at 580 metres, the Landsberg was part of the ring of castles protecting the abbeys of Mont Sainte-Odile. Enlarged around 1235 by a second castle, separated from the first by a ditch, it was remodelled in the 15th century to withstand firearms.
The ruins, listed as a historic monument and owned by the Turckheim family since 1808, retain a square keep, two round towers and a remarkable Romanesque chapel corbelled out from the façade. They are reached by a walk through the forest, often combined with Mont Sainte-Odile or the Pagan Wall. Between January and March, the surroundings are carpeted with winter aconites, a small yellow flower that is rare in the region.
