Mémorial de l'Alsace Moselle

Bas-Rhin, Grand Est

The Mémorial de l'Alsace-Moselle, at Schirmeck in the Bas-Rhin, is a museum devoted to the Second World War in Alsace and Moselle, annexed in practice by Nazi Germany. It helps visitors understand how a totalitarian regime works, the mechanisms of Nazification and of controlling the population through terror and repression, and the forced conscription of young people from Alsace and Moselle.

The memorial tells the history of Alsace and Moselle, passed back and forth between France and Germany for more than seventy years, from 1870 to the present day. Every year it welcomes more than 30,000 young people with their teachers.
