Musée Zoologique de Strasbourg

Bas-Rhin, Grand Est

The Zoological Museum of Strasbourg, in the Bas-Rhin, presents zoology collections owned by the city and managed by the University of Strasbourg. It was born when the city bought, in 1804, the entire natural history collections of Jean Hermann (1738-1800).

When the University of Strasbourg was re-established in 1872, it was entrusted with the scientific management and presentation of the collections, which have grown ever since. The reconstruction of Jean Hermann's natural history cabinet within the museum was completed in December 1988.
