Abbaye de Sénanque

Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

Notre-Dame de Sénanque is a working Cistercian monastery in the commune of Gordes (Vaucluse), in the valley where the Sénancole flows. Founded in 1148, it became an abbey in 1150. Together with Silvacane abbey and Le Thoronet abbey, it is one of the "three Provençal sisters", which testify to the great influence of the Cistercian order in Provence. Today a priory of the abbey of Lérins, the monastery is still occupied by a community of Cistercian monks.
