Château de Lacoste
Located between Apt and Cavaillon, the ruins of Lacoste castle cannot be visited but deserve to be admired for a while... The castle was built in the eleventh century, on top of the hill, offering a panorama of incredible beauty and above all of formidable strategic importance. On the hillside, the roofs of the houses tumble down in cascade.
Lacoste long remained an exception, being a Provençal enclave in the Comtat Venaissin... After belonging until the mid-eighteenth century to the Simiane family, the castle was for a time that of the famous Louis Alphonse Donatien, Marquis de Sade. During his stays at the castle, he had it restored... It was unfortunately looted and destroyed at the Revolution.
