Téléphérique de Grenoble-Bastille

Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Grenoble-Bastille cable car leaves from the quays of the Isère, in the very historic centre, and leads in a few minutes to the Bastille fort, which overlooks the city. Inaugurated in 1934, it is said to have been the first urban cable car in France. Its spherical, transparent cabins, nicknamed "bubbles", have run since 1976 and have become one of the symbols of Grenoble.

The fort, raised in the nineteenth century on the slopes of the Chartreuse massif, offers a panorama over the city, the confluence of the Drac and the Isère and the surrounding Alpine massifs. It houses the Mountain Troops Museum, which traces the history of Alpine soldiers and offers reconstructions, including a First World War trench.

The site continues with walking paths, and you can also reach it on foot by the paths that climb from the town. It is a convenient starting point for understanding the geography of the Grenoble basin.
