Château de Vizille
A listed historic monument, former residence of the Dukes of Lesdiguières (seventeenth century) and of the Perier family (1782–1895), then a presidential residence (1925–1960), the château has belonged to the Isère departmental council since 1972.
The meeting on 21 July 1788 of the Assembly of the Three Estates of the Dauphiné, at the invitation of Claude Perier, sealed the château's destiny. This political event, decisive in triggering the events of 1789, is behind the creation of a museum devoted to the French Revolution.
Since 1984, the château's rooms have housed the Museum of the French Revolution, which displays a unique collection of works of art relating to the period from the end of the Ancien Régime to the Third Republic.
