Château de Bressieux

Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

With its majestic ruins in pink brick at 523 metres' altitude, the feudal castle of Bressieux, built in the thirteenth century, bears witness to the military role it played in the Middle Ages, perched on a height overlooking the rich Bièvre plain to the north, with the last spurs of the wooded Chambaran plateau closing the horizon to the south. Of the fortress there remain today a keep and two towers, the battlements and machicolations of the entrance towers and the 23-metre keep; deep ditches surround the building, and the anchorage of the drawbridge pivots is still visible in the gate towers.
