Château de Septème
The present Château de Septème, in the Isère, grew from a single-storey fortified house of the 12th century, whose ground floor is taken up by the guardroom.
In the 14th century a three-storey round tower was built to the north-west, with the men-at-arms' kitchen on the ground floor. The fortified house and the round tower were linked by a wooden footbridge. In the 16th century Renaissance loggias replaced this footbridge, and the 12th-century house was raised by two storeys to become the present keep. The other buildings around an inner courtyard date from the 15th and 16th centuries.
