Château de l'Arthaudière

Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

A witness to Renaissance architecture, remodelled many times between the Middle Ages and the 19th century, the Château de l'Arthaudière at Saint-Bonnet-de-Chavagne, in the Isère, was shaped by two families of local lords, the Arthauds and the La Portes.

It stands out for the highly original sculpted decoration of its Renaissance portico and for the layout of its terraced gardens.

Listed as historic monuments in 1991, the château and its gardens are the subject of a major restoration campaign.
