Château du Touvet
The château du Touvet is a former thirteenth-century fortified castle, remodelled several times, in the commune of Le Touvet, in the Isère, in the Grésivaudan valley. In the Middle Ages it was a fortress watching over and defending the valley, surrounded by high walls, five corner towers and moats crossed by a drawbridge.
The château was embellished in the eighteenth century with elegant decoration: painted panelling, plasterwork, marquetry floors and Cordoba leather wall hangings. The whole, with the Cordoba leather decoration, the remains of the old fortifications and the park, is listed as a historic monument. Its formal gardens overlook the valley.
