Ravin des Arcs
The Ravin des Arcs is a small canyon in the Hérault carved by the Lamalou, a modest tributary of the Hérault river, near Notre-Dame-de-Londres, about thirty kilometres from Montpellier. It is part of the Grand Site de France of the Hérault gorges and of two Natura 2000 sites, and enjoys biotope protection. The Lamalou is a temporary watercourse, often dry, which becomes torrential with the first rains.
The stream bed holds several curiosities, the most remarkable of which is a large natural arch. A hiking loop of about four kilometres, taking roughly an hour and a half, lets you discover this green landscape in the heart of the garrigue. You must stay on the marked path from 15 January to 15 June and avoid crossing the stream during floods. The descent can be slippery in wet weather.
