The Lyon Fine Arts Museum is a municipal museum founded in 1801 and located on Place des Terreaux in a former Benedictine abbey, the Abbey of the Ladies of Saint-Pierre, a listed historic monument better known as the Palais Saint-Pierre. From 1988 to 1998 the museum underwent major renovation work that allowed an important extension of exhibition space. Spread over seventy rooms, its collections span a period from ancient Egypt to modern art and most artistic disciplines are represented, making it one of the most important French and European museums. Temporary exhibitions are offered there all year round.
