Musée des Tissus et Musée des Arts

Rhône, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Musée des Tissus et des Arts Décoratifs is a French museum in Lyon, at 34 rue de la Charité, in the 2nd arrondissement. As its name suggests, it contains two distinct and complementary museums visited on the same ticket. The textile museum has one of the richest textile collections in the world, tracing some 4,000 years of the history of fabric and silk. It holds more than 2 million textiles dating from the twenty-fifth century BC to 2006, from Pharaonic Egypt to the present day. The collections, greatly enriched by donations, bequests and acquisitions, fall into two main parts: the East and the West.
