Moncontour

Côtes-d'Armor, Bretagne

A small town of character in the very heart of the Côtes-d'Armor, between two valleys, Moncontour is a medieval village ringed by ramparts and perched on a rocky promontory.

Moncontour is a small architectural marvel. A former stronghold of the dukes of Penthièvre, it has kept intact its crown of ramparts (fourteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth centuries) as well as a remarkable heritage. If its castle was demolished on Richelieu's orders, the town knew rich hours in the seventeenth century thanks to the manufacture and trade of the famous "berlingue": a cloth of linen and hemp.
