Maison Carrée à Nîmes
The Maison Carrée is a hexastyle Roman temple built in the early first century in Nîmes, in the Gard. When it was built, the Maison Carrée was dedicated by Augustus to the glory of his two grandsons: the consuls and military leaders Lucius Caesar and Gaius Julius Caesar. Over the centuries, the temple became notably a consular house, a church then a museum of ancient arts. It is today one of the best-preserved Roman temples in the world. The Maison Carrée has been listed as a historic monument since the 1840 list.
