Château d'Espeyran
The Espeyran site, occupied from the sixth century BC, bears witness to man's conquest of the territory bounded by the costière, the Rhône, the Petite Camargue and the sea. The abbey of Saint-Gilles became its owner in the Middle Ages. After the Revolution, Guillaume Sabatier, a banker of Montpellier origin living in Paris, bought the Espeyran estate and carried out improvements to the castle, park and adjoining lands.
The château d'Espeyran is in the commune of Saint-Gilles, in the Gard. The estate today includes a park, an archaeological reserve and the National Microfilm and Digitisation Centre, attached to the interministerial service of the Archives de France.
