les cascades de gimel
The Gimel waterfalls, in Corrèze, are among the main tourist attractions of the Limousin. They lie near Gimel-les-Cascades, about 11 kilometres north-east of Tulle, and are formed by the Montane, a small river that drops there in three successive falls: the Grand Saut, about 45 metres, the Redole, and the Queue de cheval, over 60 metres high, the most important, which plunges into the Inferno chasm.
The site extends into the Vuillier park, a private property. The painter Gaston Vuillier made the waterfalls known at the end of the nineteenth century and argued for their preservation. They were among the first listed natural sites in France, in 1912.
The route follows a developed path of about an hour, which runs alongside the falls and leads to the viewpoints. Access is through a reception point with ticket office.
