Les Cabanes Du Breuil
The Cabanes du Breuil, sometimes called Bories du Breuil, are a set of dry-stone constructions at the place called Calpalmas, at Saint-André-d'Allas, in the Dordogne, in the Black Périgord, not far from the château de Puymartin.
The site corresponds to the former farm outbuildings of a farm: house, bread oven, barn. These buildings, dating from the nineteenth century or the very early twentieth, are characterised by their corbelled dry-stone vaults, covered with lauze stones, and their layout tightly packed against one another. They illustrate the traditional rural architecture of old Périgord.
The name Cabanes or Bories du Breuil spread in the 1970s thanks to Périgord Magazine, then to tourist literature and postcards of the 1980s. The ensemble has been developed as a private museum. Recent information on visiting conditions is scarce: it is advisable to check before travelling.
