Château de Commarque
In the Vézère valley, on a wild site, the château de Commarque was built in the twelfth century by the abbots of Sarlat to counter the power of the Beynacs. The operation was in fact a failure, since the Beynacs quickly took possession of the castle! Abandoned in the eighteenth century, the castle fell into ruin. In 1968, Hubert de Commarque bought the ruins of his ancestors and began consolidation and restoration work. The top of the keep is accessible and gives a magnificent view over the ruins. Visitable troglodyte dwellings are found beneath the castle.
