Lac de Gérardmer
Lac de Gérardmer, called Girômwè in the local dialect, occupies a glacial basin in the heart of the town of Gérardmer, in the Vosges. Its waters flow into the Vologne via a short outlet, the Jamagne, completing a hydrographic network typical of the high Vosges valleys.
Becoming over the nineteenth century the heart of a true tourist resort, the lake gave rise to the town of Gérardmer, today one of the most popular destinations of the Vosges massif in every season. A walking path lets you go all the way round it, while several laid-out beaches welcome swimmers in summer.
The lake is also the setting for events organised throughout the year, including the famous lake festivals in summer, with fireworks and illuminations on the water. Sailing, rowing and fishing complete the water activities offered on its shores, in every season apart from the most severe winter freezes.
