Gérardmer
Gérardmer lies in the heart of the Vosges mountains, on the shore of the lake of the same name, at an average altitude of 670 m. Its position encouraged skiing very early on. Today, the downhill ski area is at La Mauselaine and cross-country skiing is practised from the Bas-Rupts Nordic area. The commune includes large wooded areas, some of them ski areas, with 3,721 ha of conifer forest in all (more than five million firs and spruces).
