La cascade de Mérelle
The Mérelle waterfall is on the Mérelle stream, in the commune of Gérardmer, in the Vosges, above the lake. Not spectacular for its height, it is above all the goal of a forest walk, on a rocky path that can be slippery in wet weather and crosses the stream on wooden footbridges.
The route is often combined with the Tête de Mérelle, where an observation tower built in the 1970s rises to 897 metres and offers a panorama of Lac de Gérardmer and the town. It can be reached from the Saut de la Bourrique or from the lake circuit, depending on the route chosen.
The loops offered are of medium difficulty. Forestry work may have temporarily closed the final access: it is best to check the state of the path with the tourist office before setting off.
