La Ferme Marine de Cancale

Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne

La Ferme Marine de Cancale is a family oyster-farming business that opens its doors to visitors, on Route de la Corniche, on the heights of the port of Cancale, in Ille-et-Vilaine. It invites you to discover the trade of those nicknamed the sea gardeners.

The visit, guided only, lasts about an hour. It begins with the history of the oyster and its farming, followed by a film on the different facets of oyster farming. Visitors then walk through the farm's workshops, then an exhibition room presenting shells of varied shapes and colours from around the world.

Visits take place in French, and in English or German in high season. A visit adapted for children is offered at certain periods. Booking is possible online.

It is not an aquarium in the strict sense, but a living and educational discovery of seafood, which pairs well with a walk in the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel.
