Fort National

Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne

Fort National is an emblematic monument of the Saint-Malo landscape. Built in 1689 by the architect Vauban, it served to protect the town. Built in the middle of the sea, it suffers the damage of time; its drawbridge, gates and walls are often renovated. The fort was a bastion, a sentinel for the old town. Its former names, Fort Royal and Fort Impérial, bear witness to its past importance.
