Espace Automobiles Matra
The Espace Automobiles Matra is a museum devoted to the Matra brand, at Romorantin-Lanthenay, in the Loir-et-Cher, rue des Capucins. Open since May 2000 on its present site, it occupies former buildings of the Beaulieu camera factory rather than the car production site.
Over more than 3,000 m², sixty to seventy vehicles retrace the history of the company, from its origins as an armaments maker to its sporting successes. You see the Matra MS 80, the Formula 1 single-seater world champion in 1969, and the Matra Sports V12 engine, three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Formula 1 area is the highlight of the route. Prototypes and sporting concept cars, as well as a room devoted to engines, complete the visit.
Road cars are also presented: Djet, Bagheera, Murena and the different generations of the Espace. The museum is aimed at motorsport enthusiasts as well as families and those curious about French industrial history.
