La Fondation du doute
The Fondation du doute is a contemporary art venue in Blois, 14 rue de la Paix, devoted to the Fluxus movement. Created in 2013 by the City of Blois under the direction of the artist Ben Vautier, it replaced the Musée de l'Objet. Ben died in June 2024, but the foundation continues its mission.
The façade is Ben's Wall of Words, made in 1995 and composed of more than 300 paintings and writings. Inside, about 1,500 m² host the permanent exhibition on Fluxus and temporary exhibitions, presented notably in a glass pavilion installed in the former cloister. The collection brings together about 400 works and documents by some fifty artists linked to Fluxus, including Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Joseph Beuys and John Cage, from the collections of Ben and his friends Gino Di Maggio and Caterina Gualco.
The foundation sees itself less as a museum devoted to one artist than as a space for meeting, exchange and reflection on art, in the irreverent spirit of Fluxus. It also includes a Fluxus café, a place for events.
