Château du Barroux
A twelfth-century military fortress, set on a rocky peak overlooking the village of Le Barroux. It is an exceptional viewpoint over the whole Comtat plain, the Dentelles de Montmirail and Mont Ventoux. The château was transformed in the Renaissance (sixteenth century) into a magnificent residence. Abandoned in the eighteenth century, it was falling into ruin when it was bought back in 1929 by Mr Vayson de Pradenne, who undertook its reconstruction. Burned by the German occupation troops, it was restored in the 1960s. Currently, still belonging to the Vayson de Pradenne family, it is managed by an Association.
