Château de Vaison-la-Romaine

Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

This feudal castle was built in the 12th century by Raymond V, Count of Toulouse. Standing on top of the rock, it dominates the medieval town of Vaison-la-Romaine, in the Vaucluse. It is a fortress with a 13-metre stone keep. From the foot of the building there is a panoramic view over the whole town, Mont Ventoux and the river Ouvèze.

Vaison-la-Romaine holds the 'Plus Beaux Détours de France' and 'Petites Cités de Caractère' labels and is known for its particularly rich Roman remains. The castle overlooks the medieval town, built on the left bank of the Ouvèze.
