Château des archevêques de Narbonne
The Archbishops' Palace occupies the heart of Narbonne, in the Aude, and not in the Hérault. Both a residence and a fortress, it is the fruit of the construction of several archbishops in the Middle Ages, completed in the nineteenth century by the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, author of the neo-Gothic façade on Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville.
Inside the medieval enclosure follow several buildings of the fourteenth, fifteenth and nineteenth centuries. The palace houses notably the cathedral treasury and rich collections of archaeology and art objects. A Gothic cloister links it to the fortified choir of the cathedral of Saint-Just-et-Saint-Pasteur.
The palace is currently undergoing a global renovation, which may limit the visit offer. You should check with the town or the tourist office.
