Château de Libouriac
The Château de Libouriac stands on the Route de Pézenas in Béziers, in the Hérault. It was built from 1883 to 1885 for Marie Lagarrigue, wife of Abel Gaujal, on land inherited from her uncle Jean-François Mas, by the architect Louis Garros. It replaced an older, demolished château linked to the Gayon and then Dom Bédos de Celles families, and was delivered fully furnished.
Its eclectic architecture illustrates the wealth of the region's wine growers. The park was designed by Denis and Eugène Bühler. Shortly after it was built, the château produced its own electricity.
Registered as a historic monument since 1995, along with its outbuildings (chapel, water tower and dovecote, wine store, stables), its park and its avenue of pines, it remains private property running a wine estate.
