Château de la Piscine

Hérault, Occitanie

On the site of the château stood the old Mas de la Peyssine (1435), a hunting estate belonging to Charles de Boucicot, councillor at the Montpellier court of accounts. The marriage of his daughter, Anne, to Georges de Belleval passed the estate to their descendants. In the second half of the eighteenth century, François Gaspard Richer de Belleval entrusted to Jean-Antoine Giral, the author of the Peyrou perspective in Montpellier, the task of building the château we know. The building was completed in 1771.

The Belleval family remained owner of the château de la Peyssine until 1817. In 1814, Elisa Bacciochi, Grand Duchess of Tuscany and sister of Napoleon, fleeing her invaded Italian states, rented it for three weeks. This property is visited only very rarely during Garden Day and Heritage Day.
