Château des évêques de Montpellier

Hérault, Occitanie

This château in the Hérault, also called the Château des Évêques, is a true medieval castle, its first building dating from the 13th century. After many acquisitions it became the property of the bishops of Montpellier, hence its second name.

In the 17th and 18th centuries a large park and a French formal garden were planted around the château, followed by an English-style garden. The park is registered as a historic monument and is permanently open to anyone wishing to stroll. There is even a small play area for children. It is one of the finest parks in the south of France.
