Château de Beauregard

Haute-Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The château de Beauregard is at Saint-Jeoire, in the Faucigny, in Haute-Savoie. This fortress, which controlled access to the Risse valley, is said to have been built in the thirteenth century by the La Fléchère family, whose lords became counts. It began as a rectangular keep with walls about one metre twenty thick, which still forms the castle's main body. A white band painted under the roof of the towers recalls the participation of Hugues de La Fléchère in the crusade organised in 1366 by Amadeus VI of Savoy. Burned in 1589 during the Bernese invasion, the castle was restored. The family kept it until 2004, when it was given to the diocese of Annecy, which entrusted it in 2008 to a religious fraternity. According to sources, it is not open to visits, but you can admire it from outside.
