Château-Vieux d'Allinges

Haute-Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The château d'Allinges-Vieux, or Château-Vieux, is a former tenth-century fortress, the centre of a seneschalty of the Faucigny. Its ruins stand in the Chablais, in the commune of Allinges, in Haute-Savoie. They share the summit of a hill, called the "butte des châteaux", with those of the château-neuf. The château stands on a hill that overlooks Thonon, about ten kilometres away.

It offers a very wide view over the whole Lake Geneva plain and the coast of the canton of Vaud. Built by the Burgundians, it passed in the twelfth century into the hands of the lords of Faucigny. The walk up to the ruins and the view of the lake make this site a very pleasant visit.
