Centre Georges Pompidou

Paris, Île-de-France

The Georges Pompidou cultural and art centre, built on the Beaubourg plateau, aroused fierce controversy through the boldness of its architecture due to the architects Rogers, Piano and Franchini. Indeed the integration of this "liner of culture" into the district was accepted with difficulty. Nevertheless, this glass and metal parallelepiped, whose air and water pipes as well as lifts were pushed to the outside, now holds an undisputed place in the life of this district. The daily number of visitors makes it one of the most visited monuments in Paris. It houses the Musée national d'art moderne, which has a masterly collection of works.
